Welcome to the Law and Mediation Offices of Jane M. Hindman.

I am a Family Law Specialist, certified by the State Bar of California, devoting my practice exclusively to family law and specializing in no-court divorce. I have been practicing law since 1992, exclusively family law since 1995. I am trained in Collaborative Law by the Santa Clara County Collaborative Law Association (now Collaborative Practice Silicon Valley), in the interdisciplinary method of Collaborative Practice by Collaborative Divorce, and in mediation by Gary Friedman of the Center for Mediation in Law. I limit my practice to the collaborative practice method of assisting families going through divorce, post-divorce matters, and other family law matters, and mediation of those same topics.

I graduated with honors from Vassar College and began my career working as an editorial assistant for Emergency Medicine Magazine. After graduating from Boston University School of Law in 1991, I practiced litigation at Lillick & Charles in San Francisco. In 1995, I joined Hammer & Jacobs, the prominent San Jose law firm, which exclusively practices family law, and in 1997, wishing to focus on out-of-court dispute resolution, I opened my own practice. I have been practicing mediation since 1998, adding collaborative law and practice in 2001. I feel these two alternative dispute resolution methods offer the best possible processes for couples who are divorcing, and for their children, and am honored to be engaging in this work and assisting families to divorce in a more humane and dignified way.

I believe in a personal approach to my practice. I limit my practice so that I have time to handle all aspects of your case myself. I even answer my own telephone, so if you have a question or concern, you will get my personal attention, not that of an assistant. I have been active in the Collaborative Practice Silicon Valley organization and it’s predecessor, the Collaborative Law Association, since joining them in 1999. My legal activities include the following:

· Board of Trustees of the Santa Clara County Bar Association 1997 - 1998;

· Member, Family Law Executive Committee of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, 1996 - present;

· Member, Lawyer Referral Service Family Law Panel, 1997 - 2001, including serving clients of modest means from 1997 through 1999;

· Volunteer Attorney, Pro Bono Project of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, 1995 -1998;

· Volunteer Judge Pro Tem, assisting parties in dividing their assets, Santa Clara County Family Court, 1998 - 1999.

· Member, Collaborative Law Association and Collaborative Practice Silicon Valley from 1999 to present;

· Founding Member, Association of Collaborative Law Attorneys

· Membership Chair of Collaborative Practice Silicon Valley, 2004

On a personal note, I am married and have two young daughters.
